It’s not hard to see the sanctity of the work of religious workers but very few people consider their everyday work as sanctified! For most, work is just a place they go to earn a salary, maintain their lifestyle or create a name for themselves! Nothing wrong with any of these as sub themes but as the main purpose of your job? Shameful!
We must realize that our offices are to us like the church or mosque is for pastors, priests or imams. No serious pastor just shows up at the pulpit! Much spiritual and physical activities precede wonders! Same too for ‘secular’ work! We must commit much to work- working as though our reward is beyond salaries or perks, because it really is. Our real reward lies in our opportunity to create-systems, people and things by the force of hard work, personal application and a clear understanding that we really can do anything we desire to do!!
Have you ever wondered how come Africa scores amongst the least in innovation and creativity? To a large extent, we Africans leave our brains and passions at home. We receive technology with gladness and don’t even consider that we could be creators of amazing technology if we would just apply our hearts and minds.
Today, beyond the shuffling of papers and politicking that you would ordinarily do, commit to being an inventor, a genuine contributor, not just a receiver of salary! Or an opportunist business man or contractor! Yes, your work is as sanctified as any religious leader’s, act like it!!
